[client] Pinoy Relief [role] Art Director [tasks] Graphic Design [year] 2013
[challenge] Created in 2013 in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, Pinoy Relief was formed to generate awareness, raise funds and create sustainable recovery programs for the victims and communities affected by the devastating natural disaster. Because many other non-profits were started for the Philippines around this time, they wanted a way to stand out more from other organizations.
[solution] With a tight deadline to get the name to the masses, visual branding was created overnight, and a website was designed/developed within two weeks. To help Pinoy Relief stand out, rather than use colors of the Philippines flag, blues and grays were integrated into the branding. In color psychology, blues are associated with feelings of hope.
[results] Two successful benefit concerts were produced to raise money for the Philippines: a show in New York, NY at the Madison Square Garden Theater in early 2013, and the second in Manilla, Philippines at Buddha-Bar in late 2014. Both events featured guest appearances and performances from Jennifer Hudson, Pentatonix, Apl.de.Ap, The Plain White T's, A Great Big World, Jessica Sanchez, Dr. Oz, Robert Lopez, and many others. Approximately $2.9 million dollars in donations within two years were raised, and many successful recovery programs were started in the Philippines. The website was also a Gold Winner for the 2014 W3 Awards, in the "Charitable Organization" website category.
